Dust Control

Date: 11/08/2023

Controlling and killing construction dust on site.
The HSE have launched a campaign to help sites combat dust caused by construction works. Dust can and does cause irreversible damage to the lungs of people exposed to it. As the HSE states, there are literally thousands of new cases of chronic breathing and lung problems reported annually, linked to the inhaling of particles like wood and silica dust at work. Occupational lung disease is preventable in the 21st century, and as the HSE says it’s totally unacceptable that it’s still happening today.
Inspectors are visiting construction sites nationwide to make sure control measures are in place to combat dust creation, effectively remove it as it’s created, and if there is no other way of eliminating dust, protect those exposed to it with the correct respiratory protection equipment as a last resort.
Extraction, handling and the moving of materials, and brushing on construction sites all generate dust. Misting and watering areas can prevent clouds of dust from rising and becoming airborne.

We’ve plenty of pressure sprayers in stock and some innovative on-tool additions to our range of dust extractors. M-class rating is now a minimum requirement on site, unrated vacuum cleaners can exhaust over 80% of harmful dust back into your breathing space.
The M-rated V-Tuf Ruckvac is a high-performing product of collaboration with many people on the ‘front line’ of construction.

You need to always achieve top level performance from your RPE. The JSP Force 8 Press-to-check filter mask is the easiest way to face-fit check the seal of your respirator every time you put it on. Fit it – press it – check it.
