Autumn
Date: 17/09/2024
Autumn is in the air . . .
With August bank holiday been and gone, attentions turn to autumn, Halloween, darker nights and dare we say it . . . Christmas.
But without to sound doom and gloom, there’s plenty to look forward too.
Readyfix are no different, and winter presents different challenges for the trade industry.
With colder and darker weather comes increased demand for specific products, disruptions in supply chains, and changes in customer behavior. Successful trade’ies know that preparing ahead is key to navigating this critical period and maintaining steady business.
Winter brings various weather-related challenges that can affect every stage of a construction or trade project:
• Shorter days mean reduced working hours. Builders may have to adjust their schedules or invest in additional lighting to compensate for the limited daylight.
Readyfix can help with site winter lighting for those darker nights . . .
• Colder temperatures slow down the curing process of concrete, which can lead to delays and weakened structural integrity if not properly managed. Builders often use heated enclosures, insulation materials, or additives to accelerate curing in cold weather.
• Most paints and sealants have temperature limitations for proper application. Cold weather can cause these materials to thicken or freeze, leading to uneven finishes or poor adhesion.
• Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures can lead to cold stress, which includes conditions like hypothermia, frostbite, and trench foot. Builders and traders should implement regular warm-up breaks in heated shelters, ensure workers are dressed in appropriate winter gear (thermal layers, gloves, hats, insulated boots), and monitor workers for signs of cold stress.
