Are you ready for winter lighting?
Unless you live under a rock, you will be very aware that every year, the clocks go back an hour at 2am on the last Sunday of October.
If you have a smartphone or device, its clock should automatically update in the early morning.
Have you ever wondered why daylight-saving time was introduced?
British Summer Time was first introduced as part of the Summer Time Act of 1916.
William Willett, an Edwardian builder and the great-great-grandfather of Coldplay’s Chris Martin, had devised a campaign in which he proposed that the clocks go forward in spring and back in winter so people could spend more time outdoors during the day and save energy, hence the term Daylight Saving Time.
Willett wrote about his proposal in a pamphlet called The Waste of Daylight, published in 1907.
The government later adopted his ideas in 1916 during World War I – a year after Willett died – as politicians believed it would help reduce the demand for coal.
While the Summer Time Act may have been established following Willett’s proposal, he wasn’t the first to put forward the idea of preserving daylight by changing the clocks.
The autumn change is often seen as the "good one" as you either get an extra hour in bed or in the pub. However, it’s not so good if you’re a shift worker and have an extra hour at work.
Winter Lighting & Site Lighting
Shorter days and less daylight mean darker construction sites. For 3 months, going to and from a job in the dark is not uncommon.
Working in dimly lit spaces increases the risk of accidents.
Your safety on site is paramount. Stay safe, be compliant and keep work on track throughout the colder and darker months with sturdy, energy-efficient site lighting from Readyfix.
All our lighting products are fully LED, meaning they use less energy and bulbs last much longer. They can also be operated safely in cold temperatures, are extremely durable, and have a higher level of brightness – so you won't have to down tools when the nights draw in.
